Why Choose Buckeye Shapeform for Desktop Electronic Enclosures

Fully Customizable Sizing

We can fabricate desktop enclosures in virtually any height, width, and depth to meet your specific requirements, from 1U up to 12U, with capabilities extending even further with our advanced equipment.

Cost-Conscious Engineering Support

We review your drawings and models during quoting to recommend manufacturability improvements that reduce cost, simplify production, and enhance enclosure designs, especially for teams without deep sheet metal expertise.

Complete In-House Capabilities

From laser cutting and CNC machining to powder coating and silk screening, our integrated in-house capabilities enable true turnkey fabrication—delivering consistent quality control and reliable on-time performance throughout the entire production process.

Material Expertise & Inventory

We fabricate aluminum, stainless steel, cold rolled steel, and multiple metal alloys with consistent precision and quality, while maintaining stocked materials to lower costs and speed delivery.

Advanced Quality Control

We utilize advanced 2D optical inspection systems to verify all critical features immediately following laser and punch press operations, complemented by in-process floor checks and comprehensive quality department reviews for higher-level requirements.

Hardware Installation Services

We install press-fit hardware like PEM nuts, standoffs, and studs so your PCB boards are ready for assembly when they arrive at your facility, saving you time and ensuring proper fit.

5-Step Process for Working With Buckeye Shapeform

1.

Submit Your Design

Provide us with a drawing and model of your desktop enclosure. We can work with one or the other, but having both allows us to deliver the best results. We’ve even worked from hand-drawn sketches when needed.

2.

Review & Recommendations

Our engineering team reviews your design for manufacturability and provides suggestions to optimize the process, reduce costs, and improve your product—from material selection to finish operations that better serve your application.

3.

Precision Fabrication

Your enclosure moves through our shop floor, starting with laser cutting of flat sheet stock, then progressing through operations like flat sanding, press brake forming, machining for precise pockets, ventilation installation, and hardware insertion.

4.

Finishing & Labeling

We apply your chosen finish—powder coat, paint, or brush finish—in-house, using any color you specify. Then we add silk screen labeling to complete the professional appearance your demos and production units require.

5.

Final Inspection & Delivery

After a thorough final inspection and packaging prep, we deliver your custom desktop enclosures on time, ready for your team to install PCB boards and complete assembly.

Desktop Enclosure Customization Options

Finish Options

We offer powder coating, paint, and brush finishes in any color—we primarily stock Sherwin-Williams products but can source any powder or paint you specify. Most customers choose a finish for aesthetic purposes, especially for demo units, and our straight-line sander provides a smooth brush finish with visible lines throughout the part.

Hardware Installation

We install press-fit hardware from PEM Engineering, including threaded nuts, standoffs, and studs that allow you to mount PCB boards directly to the bottom panel. We can also perform riveting and other hardware installations based on your specifications.

Ventilation & Machining

We can add ventilation to panels and create precise recessed pockets using our machining centers. These modifications are completed after forming and before finishing operations.

Material Variations

While aluminum is our primary material for desktop electronic enclosures, we also work with stainless steel, cold-rolled steel, and different metal alloys depending on your application requirements.

Rack Mount Conversion Capability

We can retrofit existing desktop enclosures to rack mount configurations in most cases by changing trim pieces or replacing panels, giving you flexibility as your needs evolve.

Yes, in most cases we can convert desktop enclosures to rack mount. For the majority of our enclosures, this involves changing a trim piece on the front. There are a few standard enclosures where you might need to replace a panel, but most of them are interchangeable. This gives you flexibility if your needs change—you can start with a desktop configuration and later convert to rack mount as your application evolves.
