A Custom Chassis for an International Integrator
When a West Coast network integrator needed a chassis to house its electronic card guide technology, it reached out to Buckeye Shapeform for a custom solution.
After months of research, Oregon-based UPM Telecom, an international network integrator and management services provider, couldn’t find a standard design to retrofit the guides and accommodate the size—mainly the depth—of its product. That is when it called on Buckeye Shapeform.
To fulfill UPM’s specific requirements at minimal cost, Buckeye Shapeform fabricated a custom steel enclosure. The project called for four custom plastic card guides to mount UPM’s printed circuit board and secure the internal components. Using three-dimensional (3D) CAD drawings, UPM created a prototype of the design on a 3D printer. Buckeye Shapeform used its plastic CNC router to quickly and precisely mill plastic sheet stock to create the perfect fit for the electronic guides. It further customized the enclosure with specific hole punching and machining. Custom standoffs and hardware were needed for assembly.
Buckeye Shapeform painted the enclosure white using its in-house powder coat finish technology. UPM Telecom was very pleased with the end result and plans to use the product both domestically and internationally.
